Character Designs

Here are a few character concepts.

Characters

Evan: Evan is the protagonist and the plot stays with him for the entirety of the film. Evan is the classic early 1990s grunge high schooler. He wears flannels, listens to rock & roll, and has a drug problem. Evan has recently lost his best friend to an overdose, yet continues to deal and consume the exact substances that killed his friend. He is unknowingly the laughing stock of the school as he is constantly stoned and nonsensical. He is lackadaisical which lends itself to the humor of the film.

Johnny: Johnny is a member of the school’s baseball team, but is at risk of losing his spot on the team due to failing all but one class. He is also Evan’s top client. He regularly hosts parties at his house and, unknowingly to Evan, only invites Evan to these parties because he supplies drugs. Johnny is kind to Evan, but only for the discount. Johnny is Evan’s best friend but the feeling is not mutual.

Past: Past is more of an energetic force than a person. He guides Evan through the death of his best friend and offers no insight, just objective scenes.

Present: Present lives in wreckless abandon. She is charming and deadly. She feeds rugs to Evan and pushes him to his absolute limit. She meets him at Johnny’s party and then shows him the horrible things that the party goers say about him. She brings him to his lowest low and laughs all the while.

Future: Future is a dark and menacing presence that says nothing. The figure just points. There is no casting for Future, because it is a simple role and does not require acting experience. It will be played by the producer, Katie Forester.

Marley: Marley was Evan’s best friend up until his death about a year before the start of the story. They were inseparable since they were 10 and navigated the highs and lows of adolescence together. Marley was not necessarily the most liked individual as he was an extreme personality but Evan thought he was the funniest person he’d ever met. He had wide eyes, a smile that took up half of his face, and a laugh that felt like an earthquake. Marley and Evan began experimenting with harder drugs about a year before his death, and was always the one who had a bit too much.
